Nosy Komba, Madagascar
Identifying and protecting safe breeding zones to boost sea turtle populations.
MRCI is an award-winning government-approved organisation.
We are located on Nosy Komba island which is the heart of MRCI and the home base for all MRCI programs. Turtle Cove is nestled between a beautiful tropical forest and a pristine beach, overlooking Nosy Be and the world-famous Lokobe Forest Reserve. Just meters from Turtle Cove, volunteers can experience incredible coconut tree-fringed beaches with easy access to MRCI’s home coral reef which has been declared a Marine Protected Area by the Department of Environment in conjunction with the local community and Department of Fisheries.
What does a day look like here?
Our work encompasses a wide range of projects, from environmental conservation to community outreach. Discover our initiatives that include marine and terrestrial conservation, turtle monitoring, English teaching, and community engagement. Whether you’re interested in marine biology, conservation, or community development, there’s a place for you at MRCI.
Where will I work, play and sleep?
Volunteers are housed in communal eco-bungalows, locally built, and equipped with beds and solar-powered lighting. Each cabin accommodates 3 to 4 volunteers. Volunteers are required to bring their own bedding and mosquito net. Room service is not available.
